Frogs can be your go-to bait for bass in the summer. Not only do Bass love em, but they can sometimes be the only lure you can throw when summer conditions cause the water to fill with moss and vegetation.

We like to use BooYah, LiveTarget, and LunkerHunter Brands.

Depending on what kind you are using, here are some helpful tips:
• If the legs on your lure are rubber bands, shorten them.

They are manufactured with long legs so they last longer, but it also gives the fish more area to bite without a hook. Bass can sometimes pull these lures down by their legs if it is not a clean strike. Since the hooks are in the body of the frog, we want them to hit the body. Shortening the legs gives them less to aim at down there, and in turn forces them to hit the body and the hooks.

• Add pattern to the Belly of the frog.

Use a sharpie marker to add pattern to the bottom of your lure. We have caught bass without doing this, but this seems to produce better for us. This gives the bass more contrast to see on the lure when looking up at the frog.

Play around with this and see how much pattern works for you, and try to match frogs you have in your area.
